Sharing a passion for yoga, surfing and food for life, is what Samudra in Dunsborough, Australia is all about. This dynamic centre is surrounded by a beautiful permaculture garden and houses two stunning yoga studios, an organic vegetarian cafe, and eco-store, all under one roof.
The word Samudra means “Ocean” in the ancient language of Sanskrit. While searching for an alternative to surgery for back pain, Samudra founder, Sheridan Hammond discovered the power of yoga. It gave him the mental, physical and emotional gains to fully recover and become free from pain.
In 2004, Sheridan embarked on a journey, sharing with others his devotion of Ashtanga yoga, surfing and a wholesome healthy lifestyle by organising worldwide retreats to exotic locations. The retreats grew in popularity and by 2006 Samudra was running over 35 retreats and needed a base so that people could come together year round.
In 2008 restoration began on a 20 year old building in Dunsborough, Western Australia, using recycled local materials including salvaged timbers from Busselton Jetty. The finished result is a highly original building surrounded by a beautiful permaculture garden, housing two stunning yoga studios, an organic vegetarian café, Bio-Live wholesale food line & eco store all under one roof. Sharing a passion for yoga, surfing, nutrition and sustainable living is what Samudra is all about. Retreats are also regularly held at Samudra Dunsborough, as well as Byron Bay.
